The Health Care Bills and The First Amendment

Posted October 13, 2009

The unprecedented response of Americans to the attempts by the Obama administration and the Democratic leadership in Congress to establish the takeover of health care in our nation by the federal government has been gratifying to say the least. However, it has also revealed the fact that in order to counter the opposition of ordinary Americans this administration is preparing to take extraordinary measures to eliminate our rights under the First Amendment to the Constitution.

This effort is going far beyond the use of the mainstream media to categorize those who oppose anything President Obama does as racists or the result of some vast right-wing conspiracy. The plan is to eliminate the freedom of speech, the freedom of the press, and the right to petition our own government for redress of grievances. Of course, the far left has been trying for years to stifle free speech with its politically correct movement that has taken hold in college campuses, public schools, and even businesses.

The concept is not new. It was successfully practiced by the Nazi Party in Germany and the Communist revolutionists in Russia, China, and Cuba. The idea is to demonize the opposition and to shut them down by establishing complete control over the news media, and any other methods of free communication of thought. Of course, the vast majority of Americans believe that this type of control can never happen in our country. Unfortunately, it is already happening and there are efforts in the works to make it happen faster.

While Americans of every political persuasion try to voice their concerns at town hall meetings, members of Congress run for cover by cancelling events or limiting entry only to those who will agree with their positions. The President himself conducts town hall meetings that are so carefully orchestrated that questions and answers are prepared beforehand. The voices of dissent at many of these meetings are locked out and even assaulted by a squad of carefully selected goons from the SEIU, a so-called labor union that is becoming more and more like the brown shirts of Nazi Party every day.

When Hitler or any of his Nazi Party cohorts were speaking at public functions the platform they used was surrounded by brown shirts to “protect them”. Their actual job was to station themselves both outside and inside of the place where the function was being held. They denied entry to those that might not be true believers and if anyone did make it inside they were quickly and violently removed if they failed to follow the party line. Doesn’t that sound familiar?

In addition, the Nazis and Communists also successfully turned people against each other by encouraging neighbors to report on neighbors, students to snitch on teachers, and even children to turn in their parents if they strayed from the party line by word or deed. The electronic age has made it much easier for this type of thing. The White House simply set up an e-mail link so people could report anyone who said anything that the left considered “fishy” about the health care bills.

When you have a black man beaten up outside a town hall meeting in St. Louis because he dared to hand out “Don’t Tread on Me” flags and an elderly white cancer patient forcibly removed when he tried to enter one of these meetings in Florida it certainly looks like the same tactics employed by dictatorships around the world. Of course, the so-called mainstream news media do their part for the Obama Administration by ignoring these incidents. However, if they can’t ignore it, they will just falsely report information in an attempt to turn it to the advantage of their own political agenda.

With massive “tea parties” being held around the country to protest the tax and spend policies of the Democrats in Congress the major networks have found them impossible to ignore so they use “attack journalism” to report them. Virtually nothing is reported about who attends the rallies or what they are saying. Instead they are reported as Republican staged rallies attended only by members of right wing fringe groups. In addition, they are certainly not going to accurately report that tens of thousands of Americans are attending these demonstrations. Instead, they will follow the policy of one newspaper that reported that less than 300 people attended a rally in Columbus, Ohio that police estimated was actually attended by over 10,000 people.

However, the most blatant lie perpetrated recently was done by MSNBC which is not at all surprising since NBC news has established itself as the official network of the Obama Administration. I personally saw the handwriting on the wall when NBC News Anchor Brian Williams bowed before President Obama after concluding a self serving propaganda presentation that clearly set this President and his polices above the rest of us peons. This bow was something no journalist in the history of the United States has ever done before a President of our Republic.

MSNBC decided to go one step further. When the President was speaking in Phoenix, Arizona to the VFW there were numerous people outside of the building exercising their right of free speech. One of these was a gentleman who exercised his right to openly carry an AR-15 rifle and a pistol on his belt in order to support his 2nd Amendment rights. This is legal in Arizona and reporters for MSNBC went ballistic, showing close-up film of the weapons and reporting how serious this was that there was a black man in the White House and that whites were showing up at his speech with weapons. There was one major problem with this report however. Others had captured the same images of the protestor and had not edited out his face and arms. See, the problem for MSNBC is that the protestor was a black man.

The NBC news networks are not alone in this. Other major media outlets such as CNN, ABC, CBS, and the New York Times are also practicing the Dr. Joseph Goebbels School of Journalism. Goebbels was Hitler’s Minister of Propaganda and he had two main functions. The first was to provide unadulterated praise for anything the Fuehrer and his fellow party members were doing and secondly to silence or at least stifle any dissenting voices. This also sounds chillingly familiar.

Of course, dissenting opinions are alive and well and they are a real irritant to the Obama Administration and its supporters in Congress. Thus, they are taking aggressive steps to deal with this opposition. Their first target is talk radio that primarily consists of conservative commentators. This dominance has not come about by any conspiracy, but by the forces of a free market. Liberal talk radio shows have consistently failed to attract the audiences that people like Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity do so they don’t attract advertisers. The liberal talk shows literally die from lack of interest.

This is unacceptable to the far left so legislation was introduced by Senator Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) to reinstate the so-called Fairness Doctrine under another name and provide for balanced broadcasting of liberal and conservative talk radio shows. This would force broadcasters to essentiallly provide left wing programming for free and would force many stations to either go bankrupt or to cancel all talk radio programs. Either way, the mission would be accomplished; the American people would not be able to have free access to viewpoints that dissent from the “official” party line.

When the public realized what was about to happen an outcry arose that kept the legislation from passing so President Obama decided to ignore both Congress and the American people and make one of his famous end-runs by appointing a “Diversity Czar” to force the FCC to do the administration’s bidding when it comes to conservative programs and views. The Czar is Mark Lloyd, a far left activist who has openly praised Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez for his silencing of the free press in Venezuela. In fact, Lloyd has made it clear that he has little use for the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. He has stated:

“It should be clear by now that my focus…is not freedom of speech or the press. This freedom is all too often an exaggeration. At the very least, blind references to freedom of speech or the press serve as a distraction of from the critical examination of other communications policies”

I don’t think James Madison considered the First Amendment “a distraction” and I doubt that the vast majority of the American people believe that is the case. Yet, the President of the United States apparently has that opinion, or at least one of his appointees does.

Of course, talk radio is not the only target of the far left members of Congress and the Obama Administration. They are also deeply concerned about the use of the Internet to get out the messages that are ignored by the liberals in the media. For example, the tea parties were primarily the result of people spreading the word online and the left wants this stopped.

As a result, Senator Jay Rockefeller (D-W.V.) has introduced legislation that would transfer even more power from the people and the Congress to the Executive Branch of Government. The legislation is supposedly designed to promote cybersecurity, but it has little to do with protecting government sites such as those in the Pentagon from cyber attacks by our enemies. Instead, it targets the private use of the Internet by millions of Americans every day.

There are two key provisions of the bill and both of them contain direct assaults on freedom of speech and the press. First, the law would allow President Obama to seize control of privately operated Internet networks during a Cyber Emergency. What is a Cyber Emergency? There is no definition of it in the legislation so it is essentially anything the President decides. He can shut down massive portions of the Internet at any time for any reason.

Secondly, the bill also allows the Executive Branch to control the internet by requiring that certain operators of networks that are deemed ‘critical” by the government must be operated by “professionals” licensed by the government. The definitions of the terms “critical” and “professionals” are again left entirely to the Obama administration. I am not an Internet expert, and may be just a retired Constitutional Lawyer and former Military Intelligence Officer, but I’m pretty sure I just saw this same form of Internet control exercised in Iran when protests broke out after a clearly fraudulent election. Of course, that could never happen here; or could it?

What would happen to our efforts to petition our government for “a redress of our grievances” if we were denied the means to communicate with each other?

We must remove these Washington Elected Spenders as quickly as possible. If either the House or the Senate shifts power at least our government would be dead locked. That is better than this insane rush to CHANGE our country's fundamentals.
Please, throw out every Elected Spender, from your local school board to your Congress at the next election.
If we do that the rest of them might start listening to the working men and women of the Republic of the USA.
This is our country. Take it back.

I'm all for "cleaning house" come the next election, but who do we put in as re-placements?
Progressives, the Green Party, the Communist Party Of America, seem to be "mingling" amongst the Democrats, Independents & Republicans.
How does one know exactly what political agenda the next elected official really has in mind?
This experience has taught me to do serious homework on any and all candidates on the ballot.....thats assuming we still have the right to vote.

This is ridiculous. It is not logical to compare the president to the Nazi Party. The Democrats are not trying to silence any freedoms. The Right is simply afraid of any sort of change and see all attempts at reform as a stab at freedom. We live in the free state of American and the President of this free state is not attempting to break down the foundation of our country. This article is sheer ignorant and irrational.

Dear Mr. Connelly: How true it is that we may be judged rightly by the quality of our enemies. "Anonymous" is embarrassingly bad as a spokesman for the other side. She--I infer-- offers no rebuttal, no acknowledgement of the facts you present, and no grasp of the issues. Freedom of speech is NOT a trifle and the assaults upon it portent ill, indeed.

An excellent article, thank you, and I hope to read many more examples of your work.

Yup, this is where it gets hilariously funny. Rockefeller....Rockefeller.....Where have I heard that name before mentioned with "Internet security"?

Oh yeah, concerning Rockefeller and his comments on how the internet was the biggest national threat.

# 3 should stay anonymous, is obviously uninformed by choice like most of the voters. Those that choose to seek many sources and become discerning, start being able to connect the dots at a young age and resultantly develope values and intellegence that can not be swayed by the Politacally Correct intimidation tactics.
Thank you for your last article, it rings clear if you are one that is following many sources of what is churning these days.
Keep up the Great work!

Didn't the Hitler era follow a very similar outline give-or-take a few modern times slants. Very scary to me. Like anything, it's not the specifics but the whole package & character of the movement. Put everything together to see how fragile American life is becoming in that democracy is it's own worst enemy and needs to be protected, fought for, for all citizens. The future looks bleek indeed and I foresee only anarchy & chaos riding on a cracked foundation what with the demising of Christianity & 10 commandments. One may as well take down all the speed limit signs & stop sigs and say "have at"!

How do you wake up a culture that is drugged with good times, entertainment, and hot technical gadgets? It may take a real crisis. When they have lost their freedoms they may begin to realize how their lack of attention contributed to America's downfall. I'm 67. I never thought I'd live to see America in this mess.

On other: How genius to run this liberal Marxist agenda through on the back of a minority president. If you criticize his administration, you are accused of racial prejudice. A lie, of course. I'm a white right-wing conservative and would have loved to vote for a black man or woman who represented my fundamental beliefs and supported the Constitution. The liberal Dems are very clever, indeed.

We shouldn't give President Obama too much credit for the mess this country is in now. This mess began when the Republicans became too complacent and lost the two houses which began to vote and stop votes which were designed to push the liberal agenda. Obama blames everything on W at this point, but it may be that Obama was not in his senate seat to cast a vote, but enough of his liberal peers were and carried the motion for the very expensive war in which we are still engaged. W pushed the first 'bailout' and was spending unlike any conservative I have ever seen. I am 74 years young and have become an 'independent' voter.

Obama is not running our government, Rahm Emanuel and David Axelrod are manipulating his strings. Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Pelosi and Harry Reid are spend their time at our expense creating diversions and fabricating explanations or ignoring questions.

If it was not so frightening, it would make a good sit com. I find it amusing that everytime Obama or Biden attempt to say anything to the public that Robert Gibbs has to immediately come on the air and explain what they really meant even tho' Obama begins nearly every extemporaneous utterance with, "let me be clear."

As to the ObamaCare HR3200, anything that long and convoluted can be abused and tied up in litigation for years. One thing I haven't heard an answer to is how are the proponents of this bill going to get the doctors to accept it. Physicians now are bailing out of accepting Medicare for several reasons including very low pay rates and very high bails of required paper work. Is the government going to pass an involuntary servitude statute to keep enough doctors practicing?

I hear people complaining about term limits and have heard that for many years. In order to impose term limits for our representatives, they must vote for it. Not likely!! We can impose term limits at the polls when we vote next time.

It seems "Anonymous" is an experienced liberal dem. She wants to stay hidden and just snipe from the trees. I think it is in the genes since we know less about our current president than any other individual ever elected to the highest office in the world. He even changed his name.

Watch what they do and not what the say. F

Best thing we can do is post information on how to help campaign for the right people come next year. I personally planned to get involved with it via Collin County Conservative Republicans in my district. In addition to communicating the wrong-doings of this government, I think that should be a step we all take as well.

I am an Eagle Scout. I am a Veteran. However, I am first an American. And I HATE (is that hate speech?) what I see happening to our freedoms. We need: Term Limits. Fair Tax. Balanced Budget. All of these probably require Constitutional Amendments. The easiest is to impose term limits through the ballot box. Although we may lose some "good guys", there are more good ones out there. If the entire population of both houses of Congress are replaced, we will get rid of more bad than good, and we might even pickup some winners! Our Founding Fathers never planned on professional politicians. However, I am afraid that 2010 may be our last chance.

I have to say that I am a scared american right now. I am scared of my own government. I'm 38 years old and recently moved from California to Tennesse because I felt an overwhelming need to simplify life. I felt the need to remove myself from Government control as much as possible... I am sick and tired of being at the mercy of the government who supposedly works for me. I pay my taxes, I obey the laws, I'm accountable for me and my family and I'm responsible for my actions. I am a model American and regardless of how great a citizen I am, I am a victim in my own country and I feel as if the constitution and basic, simple regulations which are the foundation of this country, are meaningless. The part that scares me the most is that I feel like there is nothing I can do about it. I feel that my voice and my opinion do not count. I personally appreciate more than I can ever say, Mr. Connelly, the article(s) that you have written and the editorials that you've posted. I am thankful that there are educated professionals like yourself who are getting heard what I want to say. This country is founded on written and approved guidelines that grant very little power to "the government" while allowing each state and the individual citizen to decide what is best for them. How did this get forgotten? How did this very basic, very simple structure get so messed up and more importantly, how do we get "the power and control" out of the hands of this overly powerful goverment that is taking my freedom away? Yup, I'm a scared american right now...

For so long a time my thoughts have been that too many Americans have been asleep as regards to this U.S. Government's activities. It has passed the point now that "WE" must take action to pressure all our representation, local and national, to function as they pledged in oath to duty. What I have seen in my 83 years is of a grave issue and it is embedded in my mind that those seeking power lest deserve the trust therein. May this issue awaken all persons who love their freedon here in this country, take notice and stand errect to the cause for, truly, this government is the biggest traitor that this country will ever have bar none.

I'm sorry I took the time to read so much nonsense on this blog. When a friend of mine sent me the link I was hoping to learn some substantive information to help me understand the debate more fully. Instead, any valuable information that may be here is clouded by hype, sensationalism, rumor, and scare tactics. I found it overall very uninformative.

They are dead in the water. Their movements are dead in the water.

Women know internally how to save their children and families. They know what it takes to push 9lbs out. This is the day that women, I'm am calling you to get up, get on the phone, and push. If you dont' know why than the information you need to know needs to get into your hands, RIGHT NOw. I call it into your hands then. But in the meantime, push back right now.

You didn't stand for abortion to take the vote of those who oppose away. You didn't oppose abortion to get your vote not counted. Nor did you walk either way hoping countless others are killed because someone else decides they want to be Hitler.

Hey David Ladner & anonymous I'm 82 years old and WWII veteran. I believe both of you 12 year olds have a lot to learn. when I was 12 I had opinions such as yours about what was happening
in Germany & Japan in 1939. I'm sure both of you do not believe the Holocaust was real.
I survived the Great Depression, World War II and the Cold War. It pains me greatly to see this liberal generation of Americans so unaware of our past history, the US Constitution & Bill of Rights.
The Hand writing in on the Wall kids - wake up before its too late. Obamas 'Change' is going to drag America into his czarist Police State....with
poverity you can't imagine.

They won't have to imagine it. They're absolutely going to live it. Not much longer now.

Anonymous and David Ladner are obviously the result of the dumbing down that has been going on in our schools for some time now, and don't know how to reason and think for themselves. Or, they are being willfully ignorant. I pray their eyes are opened before it's too late, however, I believe we're getting very close to the point of no return, unless the citizens stand up and stand together, through the Founders Alliance, 912 groups, and TEA Party groups, and let our voices be heard. It's way past time to get rid of the career politicians, and demand that our MOC represent what we the people stand for~~~upholding the Constitution. Mr. Connelly, excellent article, and right on point as I have read of this cyber-emergency from other sources, and it is a real threat to our freedom of speech. In the meantime, pray like never before for God's guidance and wisdom, and for the lost. And, pray for the peace of Jerusalem as Israel is key to where we are in history.

Throw the bums out of the White House and the Senate, Congress et al. The sooner the better!
They are going to ruin our wonderful country and make it into a nanny state like European countries.
Put a stop to this madness. Marxism has no place i America. We are Capitalists and love FREEDOM

This is going to take more than voting to correct this situation...

Reading the comments is, in some cases, inspiring. People are getting involved and are waking up to the fact that neither party is serving their constitutional best interest. Of course, you'll always have your liberal hacks who would deny the sun shining in their faces.
To be discussing the constitutionality of a set of bills passed by this administration and part of the last administration proves that virtually nobody is on the American people's side. Sure, you have a Republican or independent stand up for a particular issue just to build a little capital. Next voting they knife you in the back. Bill Bennett is one of my guys and whatever he's been smoking is not helping.
Numerous groups and people have spelled out what needs to be done: follow the constitution. But, congress has been completely corrupted and intends on destroying this country for their own power.
THE CONSTITUTION SOLELY RELIES ON A MORAL PEOPLE.
When we loose our morality and vote our passions we get this. Blaming our completely corrupt congressmen and women just points back to the districts who elected them.
David and Anomy, both represent the progressive cynicism that denies moral judgment.
There is still time.

I just posted this site on Face Book. This is so disparing to think we are being totally ignored it actually makes me sick. I posted this site to give people hope. Thank you for writing your posts.
Thanks,
Janette
